Week 2

Gaming in the 1980s to 1990’s has grown really fast as time went by. For example games were played in arcades and computers but in the beginning of 1980’s they were played at home. In the mid 1980s there were too many games that were badly developed due to this cause the industry experienced many losses and more severe than the 1997 crash. This was the crash of the video game industry, as well as the bankruptcy of several companies that produced the North American home computers and video game consoles from late 19983 to early 1984. This fall then brought an end to what was considered as the second generation of console video gaming. Due to the extreme deadlines poor games were designed at this time which was E.T the Extra-Terrestrial and Pac- Man for the console Atari 2600 which suffered to make any profit. It was then discovered that Pac-man cartridges were manufactured than there systems sold. However on the other game called, E.T the extra-terrestrials had many cartridges left which were unsold that Atari allegedly buried thousands of cartridges in a landfill in New Mexico. After the clash in 1983 no games were getting sold but soon after the Nintendo console released. It was purchased really fast and was known as the best console selling ever. This console brought game generation back in to its place.

In 1985, the North American video game console was finally reviewed with Nintendo’s release of its 8-bit console this console was known as Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), outside Asia. This console was bundled with Super Mario Bros which was a huge success. The NES dominated the North American and the Japanese market until the rise of the next generation of consoles in the early 1990’s. Other markets were not as heavily dominated as this company.

For other new consoles, the game pad was over taken by joysticks, paddles and keypads as the default game controller all of this were included with the system. There was another control that was designed that was named Directional-pad (or D-pad for short) with 2 or more action buttons.
The Legend of Zelda series made its debut in 1986 with The Legend of Zelda. In the timethe same year, the Dragon Quest series debuted with Dragon Quest, and has created a phenomenon in Japanese culture ever since. The next year, the Japanese company Square was struggling and Hironobu Sakaguchi decided to make his final game—a role-playing game (RPG) modelled after Dragon Quest and titled Final Fantasy—resulting in Final Fantasy series, which would later go on to become the most successful RPG franchise. 1987 also saw the birth of the stealth game genre with Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear series’ first game Metal Gear on the MSX2 computer—and ported to the NES shortly after. In 1989, Capcom released Sweet Ho me on the NES, which served as a precursor to the survival horror genre. In 1988, Nintendo published their first issue of Nintendo Power magazine. This generation ended with the NES discontinuation in 1995.
(These are some history that I have got from the net for the games that did really well and the reason for Japan being one of the best for the game industry and Americans that is in BOLD).

In 1990 many console were created that leaded to huge success as game industry was well known at the time and now it’s even huger. In 1990 games were out with 3D graphics which rise to several genres of video games but not for those, real time strategy. In 1990 hand held became so popular throughout the decade. Thanks to game boy. During the 1990s game has become really popular and common.
After the clash in 1983 the console Atari has re entered for the home console market in 1993 but this time it was introduced as Atari Jaguar. During this year other console were released such as, 3DO Interactive Multiplayer which was released by the 3DO Company. This console competed with the console, Atari Jaguar but Atari has sold more than the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer due to its high price tag. Even though the console, Atari Jaguar sold more still both consoles had low sales and few quality games. These both game consoles where leading to their demise.

After a year which is 1994, three new consoles were released in Japan and they were, Sega Saturn, Playstation and the PC-FX. Later in the 1995 Playstation and Saturn started to release in North America. Playstation was the console that sold the most and out pasted any other competitors instead of the aging Super Nintendo Entertainment System, which still had all the support from many major game companies.

However Nintendo started to have negative consequences soon after that the game Final Fantasy which was released by Square Soft use to be run through Nintendo but now turned to the Playstation. Final Fantasy VII (1997) was a huge success, establishing the popularity of role – playing games in the west and making the Playstation the primary console for the genre soon after Sony had become the leader in the video game market.

My Experience
I have played the console, Playstation and I truly think it was a brilliant console with brilliant games. Throughout the time I was addicted to the console that leaded to my parents hiding the controls. I have also had Game Boy which was another successful portable player. Continues to next weeks…
