Week 10

The characters I have en counted in books were; Spiderman, Batman, Superman, Transformers etc. mainly all the marvel characters this was because the marvel characters were really famous and well known at the time and still are!! The characters I en counted on TV were also marvel characters on programs like cartoon network, nickelodeon, boomerang etc. soon after that they were in actual films!!...they looked so realistic!!

When you watch the program regularly it builds emotions, feelings for the character!! You feel as if the hero in the program should have a happy ending or win the bad guys etc. whenever the hero is out of power and is getting destroyed for example it gets the viewer upset. So feeling does build up for the characters. My feeling towards the character is general thoughts such as; they should have a happy ending or win the bad guys etc…

I think the technique is quite remarkable because they first build feelings and emotions by the cartoon programs or books and they then release it in the film industry!! So everyone responds to the movie…straight away with high expectations!! That’s the technique most of them use to get response for these characters!!

When the movie is released in the cinema’s everyone expectations are really high!!! So the acting of the actor has to be perfect as he has to resemble to the cartoon character which is not easy. The appearance has to be unexpected and awesome so it shocks the audience!! For example when Spiderman got released I had high expectation…This movie kept my respect as I was satisfied with the movie as it had everything perfect!!

The stories that I find irresistible is having a hero and a villain in the movie!! Because it is always unexpected and definitely has action!! For example Spiderman the movie and Batman the movie have the same type of story (good verses evil)!! But when the movie was watched they were completely different as they viewed the genre in a different ways!!

Week 9

My mind is kind of vague about what consoles I had!! So…let’s start with Sega Mega Drive! I remember the controls…they were kind of wide and had six buttons and the arrows on the left side. Console wasn’t difficult to use! It was easy to adapt to but the control system wasn’t great!! It was uncomfortable when you had to press the sixth button which was at the far right. I think the most comfortable control was made by Playstation. It was definitely comfortable and adjustable and the console wasn’t too difficult to use.

From what I remember I had quite a lot of console’s but what attracted me the most by its design was the PSP Go. Even though I haven’t got the portable console yet…I absolutely adore it!! It is really small and it perfectly fits in between your hands. When this got released I was amazed by the design of how it slides down and leads the screen to be at the top and buttons at the bottom.

Here is the picture of the portable console….PSP GO!!

http://www.slashgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/psp_go-480x362.jpg

What do you think???

I think the users won’t have issues with the consoles as it has enlarged so much!! Consoles have now connected with the Internet, TV Soups, DVD’s and Games (obviously) LOL! So there is no room for issues from my concern.

I believe controls are important as much as the console!! If the controls were uncomfortable and hard to adjust to!! It will eventually put you off the console!! Control obviously controls what ever happens in the game so it is important for the control to be an appropriate design and it has to be easy, adjustable and comfortable to use. If the control is bad it could take the console down with it. So yes it could be a dying technology.

Week 8

I love games that involve strong storyline because it makes me feel as if I’m playing towards a brilliant ending and it gets me attached to the game! For example, ‘Metal Gear Solid 4’!

For me ‘Metal Gear Solid 4’ is one of my favourite game at all time because I was so impressed with the immense change of graphics, game play and a beautiful storyline(simply perfect). I believe the story gave a perfect ending touch to the game. Metal Gear 4 was always story based so Hideo Kojima knew that it had to be good but he also knew that people had high expectations so he had to improve the graphics and game play. Another game for example ‘Tekken’! I know it hasn’t got the best story but the game play covers it all. The reason why I chose these two games is because they are completely different and they will simplify what I am about to say. I like games including the story and some time I will just like to play for fun. Basically it depends on my mood. So I do not think that the story makes the game better. It depends on the game…. if it’s interesting, different and addictive.

If the game brings excitement and entertainment then it will be a huge success from what I believe. A game needs to attract its audience by the game play, graphics etc. As in Demo’s it never shows the story just the game play. Then it is decided by the audience if they want to purchase the game. Well story is important because it could bring a disappointing ending. So story is important in my opinion story is important because it gives a satisfying ending to the game which leads the audience to have no issues. If you know what I mean!!!

Story does not make a better game but it gives a satisfying ending what gives a better game is entertainment, excitement and game play from my view…

Week 7

Art Director general role to the busines is to be in charge of everything. He or she will assess evryones work individually!! they will then criticise about....if the character visualizes its mood properly or if the visual appeareance is appropriate etc.they will basically keep an eye with everyone to see if they are leading to the right direction of achieving the audience satisfaction.

The difficult problem that a director faces is visualizing desired moods, message, concepts and undeveloped ideas into imagery. For example...During brainstorming ideas the art director will have to combine everyone imaginations and put it in one which is really hard!! The art director will get pressured during the time as it will have to be perfect because one little mistake could lead the entire group to flop! So when the art director modifies the end result of how the finishing piece will look like it will have to be perfect.

Art Directors are also responsible to print and web. It includes photo research, chasing down for permissions, cleaning and sizing art, making more or less graphic templates and assembling stuff into online galleries. So an art director will have to punctual and busy at all time.

Yes I definitely think that being an ‘Art Director’ is definitely a creative role as they visualize and create the mood of the characters.

I strongly think that there would be a lot of similarities between an ‘Art Director’ and ‘Film Director’. The first similarity is that they both are directors so they would be in charge of everything so they would be responsible for everything. They will have to be punctual and be in control in all time. So there job role will be the same but the programme they will be using will be different and there would be some similarities programme. Such as camera angle will be used by both but in different ways.

What qualities would I need to develop? Erm….damn loads.

I will have to work on my presentation skills, evaluation skills and decision makings. I will also have to develop on my drawings skills as the perspective and mood has to be perfectly visualized as I will be responsible for any mistake which could put my whole team in jeopardy and right decisions will have to be made at all time.

This is scaring me already!!! L So much pressure! O well needs to be done..!

Week 6

Okay here it goes…what is meant by game play? It basically means someone taking control of the game. When a player connects with the game it creates game play! Soon after…player takes full control! Then it depends on, what the player does. In the other hand game play also allows the player to decide on purchasing the game after playing the demo.

So who are the leading lights in game design? Well to start with there are loads!! They basically decide if the game is appropriate by checking the game play, graphics, character design, environments etc basically they check the overall and they also check if it will be successful for the marketing environment. They control everything as they are called the leaders LOL! So they basically lead it to success.

So where does game play take place in the modern developer? Erm…Game design will obviously be created first. They will obviously browse ideas before they actually go in to developing the game. I believe they will brainstorm ideas first then create few sketches or concept art and then decided from there. So designing will be the first before they develop.

Is it a single person’s responsibility? Of course not!! Unless it was specially made for the person as a gift anyways….a game is not a single’s responsibility!! During the time when they create the game they think about every individual person of what they will want in the game play which could be done by questionnaires for example. They then take everyone ideas and then merge it together. So it is definitely not a single person responsibility!!

So does different genre include different principles? Do they? Yes!! Absolutely! First of all there are many genre for a game for example, Fighting, Racing, Adventure, Shooting, Fishing etc. for different genre there are different principles!! Obviously…as they won’t add the same style of game plays in a shooting genre to a fighting genre!! In a shooting game I could imagine them focusing on the guns, environment and first person view as all shooting games have first person view!! As a fighting game they will be focusing on the character design and movement of the character etc. so different principles will be focused in different genres.

So what’s important for me during game play? Well first of all the graphics has to be good as I love games that look realistic!! If it doesn’t!! I tend to loose interest as it keeps showing its doll and fake!!!! I know its crazy but it’s me!! However if the graphics is bad but the game play is fun and interesting then it will be fine. So it really depends on the graphics, game play and story line. I love games that involve storyline…

Week 4

Having the qualifications of English and media (journalist) does not mean you’re a reviewer it could mean a lot more. You could only be a good reviewer if you have the knowledge, the history of games and getting information to the public by few sentences. The reviewer has to be really good on what they do and most of all should enjoy their job. The main intention of a reviewer is to get the attention of the public eye by their opening statement. So it will have to be professionally done.

Issues will be accounted if the reviewers have made a false statement about the game or over exaggerated. For example if I have brought the game after reading the review mentioning that it’s one of the best game of all time etc. but when it was played I was really disappointed as it was nothing like the reviewers have told I would be really annoyed. So I think the reviewers could only face issues if they are not telling the truth as the reviews catches the public eye. So they better be careful on what they say. In my opinion a reviewer telling the truth is never unless if I am satisfied with the review!

A reviewer will obviously get paid by the game company of who wants to advertise their game to the public. If a new game were released the director will want good insight of the game play and story from the reviewers. Reviewers will only get paid if they wrote good things about the game. This is where it becomes difficult for the public to trust the reviewers. Sometimes reviewers add their own judgement about the game which will obviously be the truth. I will think of it as an opinion and adhere to my decision.

The rank system is created by the public opinions and votes and then gets placed in the category. After every game was voted they all had a percentage or been ranked out of 10. This was done to show its popularity and how good the game actually is. I believe the rank is necessary because it makes it easier to decide. Some people might decide after watching the game play or by playing the demo. Most of the time they do give a disc with the magazine which is very thoughtful in my opinion as I think it’s more preferable to make your decision after playing the demo or watching clips of the game.

Week 3

In the 2000’s many consoles were created such as Play station 3, X box360, Nintendo etc. These consoles were no ordinary consoles they were multi platinum consoles with huge enhanced graphics, motion and design that were heavenly created for mankind. However every console was popular during their release, yet for some! But these consoles made millions of profit as they were well none due to their popularity. However these were the consoles that sold millions. I will get back to this after I answer all the questions to my task 3. I will try my best to explain thoroughly as possible.

What do I want from gaming in the future? from my view, graphics is not an issue as it satisfiers the players but I still believe it can be possible to exaggerate to a certain extent till the characters, environments and other elements within the game realistic for example if I clashed a movie with a game I expect not to see a difference. I also expect the game to make the player feel as if, he is in the game. For example the movie ‘the gamer’ I will be taking forever if I explain the movie. Here is the site stated http://www.cinematical.com/2009/09/04/review-gamer/ this is not quite what I intend but something similar to this kind but I do not want the game to start taking lives for example. I also intend the game to created a goggles the shows the in site of the game so it makes the player feel realistic as possible. These are my crazy ideas for the future as the present started to make it seem possible.

I own these consoles; Ps3, Nintendo WII, Nintendo Ds and PSP. I think that Playstation three is my favourite console as I’m on it 24/7 and the game i am addicted is metal gear solid 4. I strongly think this game is fabulous and the online is good i wouldn’t say its brilliant but the game play is just simply beautiful. I recommend everyone to check it out.

Week 2

Gaming in the 1980s to 1990’s has grown really fast as time went by. For example games were played in arcades and computers but in the beginning of 1980’s they were played at home. In the mid 1980s there were too many games that were badly developed due to this cause the industry experienced many losses and more severe than the 1997 crash. This was the crash of the video game industry, as well as the bankruptcy of several companies that produced the North American home computers and video game consoles from late 19983 to early 1984. This fall then brought an end to what was considered as the second generation of console video gaming. Due to the extreme deadlines poor games were designed at this time which was E.T the Extra-Terrestrial and Pac- Man for the console Atari 2600 which suffered to make any profit. It was then discovered that Pac-man cartridges were manufactured than there systems sold. However on the other game called, E.T the extra-terrestrials had many cartridges left which were unsold that Atari allegedly buried thousands of cartridges in a landfill in New Mexico. After the clash in 1983 no games were getting sold but soon after the Nintendo console released. It was purchased really fast and was known as the best console selling ever. This console brought game generation back in to its place.

In 1985, the North American video game console was finally reviewed with Nintendo’s release of its 8-bit console this console was known as Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), outside Asia. This console was bundled with Super Mario Bros which was a huge success. The NES dominated the North American and the Japanese market until the rise of the next generation of consoles in the early 1990’s. Other markets were not as heavily dominated as this company.

For other new consoles, the game pad was over taken by joysticks, paddles and keypads as the default game controller all of this were included with the system. There was another control that was designed that was named Directional-pad (or D-pad for short) with 2 or more action buttons.
The Legend of Zelda series made its debut in 1986 with The Legend of Zelda. In the timethe same year, the Dragon Quest series debuted with Dragon Quest, and has created a phenomenon in Japanese culture ever since. The next year, the Japanese company Square was struggling and Hironobu Sakaguchi decided to make his final game—a role-playing game (RPG) modelled after Dragon Quest and titled Final Fantasy—resulting in Final Fantasy series, which would later go on to become the most successful RPG franchise. 1987 also saw the birth of the stealth game genre with Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear series’ first game Metal Gear on the MSX2 computer—and ported to the NES shortly after. In 1989, Capcom released Sweet Ho me on the NES, which served as a precursor to the survival horror genre. In 1988, Nintendo published their first issue of Nintendo Power magazine. This generation ended with the NES discontinuation in 1995.
(These are some history that I have got from the net for the games that did really well and the reason for Japan being one of the best for the game industry and Americans that is in BOLD).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_video_games#Video_game_crash_of_1983 (site that talks about all the 1990s development for game that been designed and created).

In 1990 many console were created that leaded to huge success as game industry was well known at the time and now it’s even huger. In 1990 games were out with 3D graphics which rise to several genres of video games but not for those, real time strategy. In 1990 hand held became so popular throughout the decade. Thanks to game boy. During the 1990s game has become really popular and common.
After the clash in 1983 the console Atari has re entered for the home console market in 1993 but this time it was introduced as Atari Jaguar. During this year other console were released such as, 3DO Interactive Multiplayer which was released by the 3DO Company. This console competed with the console, Atari Jaguar but Atari has sold more than the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer due to its high price tag. Even though the console, Atari Jaguar sold more still both consoles had low sales and few quality games. These both game consoles where leading to their demise.

After a year which is 1994, three new consoles were released in Japan and they were, Sega Saturn, Playstation and the PC-FX. Later in the 1995 Playstation and Saturn started to release in North America. Playstation was the console that sold the most and out pasted any other competitors instead of the aging Super Nintendo Entertainment System, which still had all the support from many major game companies.

However Nintendo started to have negative consequences soon after that the game Final Fantasy which was released by Square Soft use to be run through Nintendo but now turned to the Playstation. Final Fantasy VII (1997) was a huge success, establishing the popularity of role – playing games in the west and making the Playstation the primary console for the genre soon after Sony had become the leader in the video game market.

My Experience
I have played the console, Playstation and I truly think it was a brilliant console with brilliant games. Throughout the time I was addicted to the console that leaded to my parents hiding the controls. I have also had Game Boy which was another successful portable player. Continues to next weeks…

Week 1

The idea of making a game was a tremendous idea as there were no games invented in the 1950’s. Who created the first game??? It was “Thomas Toliver Goldsmith”. He was awarded for this as he was the first to invent the game called “Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device, 1947”. The main reason for this being awarded was because this was the first game that entertained the nationality. This has allowed many people from not getting bored as it was very addicted and exciting. However I do not think that this game was a breathtaking as I was born in 1990. More games were invented with better graphics and they gradually changed to a still image game to games that move across the screen. For example a game like “pong” was created by a man called Allon Alcorn, 1972. This was a two dimensional game that was always appeared on the same screen how ever other games like the first street fighter game would move side to side for the game to be completed. Games started to be created in the 1950’s till the day today. Game has shown a huge progress and it changed to being tremendous rapidly. In the 2009 every kid will talk about a game of Nintendo WII, PS3 or Xbox etc. I am glad that game was in vented in the 1950’s till this day as it progressed rapidly and now I got various types of games that could be played. This has truly entertained me and got me addicted. For example, at times my parents had to put a password on or hide the controls.
Pac man was the first game that I played and I have found this game very interesting and entertaining. I loved this type of game as it was really simple and straight to the point I am not saying that I do not enjoy complicated games because I do.
The most recent game I played is metal gear solid 4 on ps3. This is the most recent game. The reason for me playing mgs4 is because I played all parts to the game. I absolutely love this game as I completed it four to five times as I wanted to achieve everything. This game is a huge success as it showed incredible change to the graphics through the years. What made me carry on playing this game is my interest and I always found this game entertaining how ever I never found it boring or it seem old as I was addicted (at times I could be on this game for hours). Online has made it better as the game won’t be predictable and finish the way it is meant to finish in fact online allows to show other better challengers who could be really challenging or be worse. This allows me to carry on playing this game as it will never get boring and online will always allow me to challenge others around the country. This will really testify me for this game. The other thing that keeps you playing is friends. This is what keeps me going my interest and addiction for the game and friends. I absolutely love this game and I am truly addicted to it. I also recommend you to play this game. :)
